Resolution commemorating the 85th Anniversary of Deno’s Wonder Wheel, located in Brooklyn’s Coney Island Amusement area.

Whereas, Deno’s Wonder Wheel was built in 1920 by the Eccentric Ferris Wheel Company, using 100% Bethlehem Steel forged right on the premises; and
Whereas, Throughout the entire building process, the 18 co-owners worked as construction workers to ensure that a quality product was made; and
Whereas, Deno’s Wonder Wheel weighs approximately 400,000 pounds, stands 150 feet high, has a diameter of 140 feet and is capable of holding 144 people at once; and
Whereas, The attraction includes 16 swinging passengers cars and 8 stationary cars that give riders a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean, the Jersey Shore and the New York City skyline; and
Whereas, According to the current owners of Deno’s Wonder Wheel, each year the entire structure is overhauled and painted to protect it from the elements of weather, wear and tear; and
Whereas, Deno’s Wonder Wheel has maintained a perfect safety record throughout its entire history; and
Whereas, It is estimated that each season over 200,000 people of all ages will ride Deno’s Wonder Wheel while its open; and
Whereas, Deno’s Wonder Wheel was designated as an official New York City Landmark in 1989 by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission; and
Whereas, A full-sized replica of Deno’s Wonder Wheel stands in Yokahama, Japan; and
Whereas, Throughout its history, Deno’s Wonder Wheel has appeared in several movies, television shows, commercials, music videos and magazine ads; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York commemorates the 85th Anniversary of Deno’s Wonder Wheel, located in Brooklyn’s Coney Island Amusement area.
