A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to installing stop signs or traffic control signals at all crosswalks
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Subchapter 3 of chapter 1 of title 19 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 19-189.2 to read as follows:
§ 19-189.2 Installation of stop signs or traffic control signals at crosswalks. a. Definitions. For the purposes of this section, the following terms have the following meanings:
Crosswalk. The term “crosswalk” means that part of a roadway, whether marked or unmarked, which is included within the extension of the sidewalk lines between opposite sides of the roadway at an intersection.
Intersection. The term “intersection” has the same meaning as set forth in section 120 of the vehicle and traffic law or successor provision.
Traffic control signal. The term “traffic control signal” has the same meaning as set forth in subdivision a of section 19-199.
b. Installation of stop signs or traffic control signals. No later than January 1, 2027, the commissioner shall install a stop sign or a traffic control signal at all crosswalks.
§ 2. This local law takes effect immediately. HK
