My name is Erik Martin Dilan, and I am the 4 Chairman of the City Council's Housing and Buildings 5 Committee, and today the Committee will be 6 considering two bills for the purposes of a vote. 7 The first is proposed Intro. 511-A in 8 relation to providing notice to the State concerning 9 disciplinary proceedings against certain 10 professionals, as well as Intro. 754-A, and that 11 will require the Department of Buildings to post on 12 its website the number of fatalities and accidents 13 it has at construction sites during a given calendar 14 year. 15 In brief, Intro. 511-A would require 16 the Department of Buildings to report to the New 17 York State Department of Education actions it takes 18 against professional engineers or registered 19 architects. 20 And, again, 754-A would just very 21 simply require DOB to post accidents and injuries on 22 their website, and I would like to call on the 23 sponsor of Intro. 511-A just to make a brief 24 statement. 25 Council Member James. 4 1 COMMITTEE ON HOUSING AND BUILDINGS 2 COUNCIL MEMBER JAMES: Thank you, Mr. 3 Chair. 4 511-A would require the Department of 5 Buildings to provide written notice to the New York 6 State Department of Education of any professional 7 engineer or registered architect who was subject to 8 any disciplinary proceedings where there has been an 9 adverse determination or sanction by the Department 10 of Building, including any settlement agreements 11 resulting in a sanction of privileges imposed by the 12 Department of Buildings. 13 It's really a common sense approach 14 and we really should be in communication and 15 coordination with the State Department with respect 16 to any sanctioned engineers or architects in the 17 City of New York and it's just a provision I think 18 which would help safety in the City of New York as 19 we all focus on construction sites in this great 20 City. 21 Thank you, Mr. Chair. 22 CHAIRPERSON DILAN: Thank you, Council 23 Member James. 24 I urge my colleagues to vote in favor 25 of both of these bills and I ask the clerk to call 5 1 COMMITTEE ON HOUSING AND BUILDINGS 2 the roll. 3 COUNCIL CLERK MARTIN: Council Member 4 Dilan. 5 CHAIRPERSON DILAN: I vote -- oh, let 6 me stop the vote for a second.
