Int 0903-2018 *Donovan J. Richards  Funds remaining in inmate accounts when inmates are released.IntroductionUpon release from local correctional institutions, some inmates have funds remaining in their accounts, but they may not be aware of the amount remaining or how to request a refund. This bill would require the Department of Correction to inform inmates of the amount of funds remaining in their accounts within 72 hours prior to release and give them instructions as to how to request a refund. In addition, the Department would be required to return, if possible, any funds remaining in an inmate account to the former inmate within 60 days following the inmate’s release and to report annually to the Council the aggregate amount of funds remaining in all accounts of former inmates who are no longer incarcerated.Hearing Held by Committee  Action details Not available
