Summary: This bill would require that, from September 1, 2026, onward, the NYPD deploy at least one school crossing guard at all kindergartens, elementary schools, and middle schools citywide.

A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to requiring a school crossing guard at each school enrolling students in kindergarten through eighth grade

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

 

Section 1. Section 14-118 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new subdivision d to read as follows:

d. No later than September 1, 2026, the commissioner shall assign at least 1 school crossing guard to each public and private school with students enrolled in any grade from kindergarten to eighth grade.

§ 2. This local law takes effect immediately.
