A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to the process for a permit for a major alteration.

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

Section 1.  Section 27-161 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended to read as follows:

§27-161. General requirements. All applications for permits to alter existing buildings shall be subject to the requirements of articles nine and ten of this subchapter and section 27-156 of article eleven of this subchapter.  All applications for permits to make an Alteration Type 1 (Alt 1) to existing one-, two- and three-family dwellings shall also be subject to the requirements for a demolition permit application set forth in this subchapter.  For purposes of this section, “Alteration Type I” or “(Alt 1)” shall mean alterations such as change of egress, use or occupancy of an existing property or any other alteration that on January 19, 2007 would have required the filing of an Alteration Type 1 application with the department.

§2.  This local law shall take effect ninety days from its enactment, provided however, that the commissioner of buildings shall promulgate any rules and perform all other actions necessary for the implementation of this local law prior to such effective date.
