Title: Resolution calling upon the New York City School Construction Authority to proceed rapidly with the rehabilitation of Public School 31 (PS 31) in the Bronx, so that the students and faculty of PS 31 can be returned to their historic and beloved facility as soon as possible.

Res. No. 1178 Title Resolution calling upon the New York City School Construction Authority to proceed rapidly with the rehabilitation of Public School 31 (PS 31) in the Bronx, so that the students and faculty of PS 31 can be returned to their historic and beloved facility as soon as possible. Body By Council Members Espada, Henry and Lopez; also Council Member Harrison. Whereas, Public School 31 (PS 31) has been serving the community of Mott Haven, in the Bronx, for over one hundred years with pride and distinction; and Whereas, The PS 31 school building was designed by the renowned architect C.B.J. Snyder, and was designated a landmark in 1986 by the New York City Landmarks and Preservation Commission; and Whereas, In recent years, the students of PS 31 achieved the best reading and math scores in all of Community School District Seven; and Whereas, The students and faculty of PS 31 were displaced from their school building in 1997 as part of a rehabilitation plan, and its renovations were to have been completed by the School Construction Authority (SCA) by the start of the 1999-2000 school year; and Whereas, No substantial work of any kind has been commenced by SCA on PS 31, and the students of PS 31 continue to languish in other, overcrowded facilities; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the New York City Council calls upon the New York City School Construction Authority to proceed rapidly with the rehabilitation of Public School 31 (PS 31) in the Bronx, so that the students and faculty of PS 31 can be returned to their historic and beloved facility as soon as possible.
