A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to public access to records.

 

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

 

                     Section 1.  Chapter 2 of Title 23 of the administrative code of the city of New York is hereby amended by adding a new section §23-204, to read as follows:

                     §23-204. Unlawful obstruction of public access to records.  Any person who knowingly conceals or destroys records of the city of New York with the intent of preventing their public inspection as provided for under the freedom of information law of article six of the new york state public officer’s law, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of no more than $1,000, or by a term of imprisonment of no more than 30 days, or both.

                     §2.                     This local law shall take effect immediately.
