Notes: District 13 - Council Member - Democrat - Council Member Mark Gjonaj represents the 13th Council District in the Bronx, which includes the Allerton, City Island, Country Club, Edgewater Park, Ferry Point, Locust Point, Morris Park, Pelham Bay, Pelham Gardens , Pelham Parkway, Schuylerville, Silver Beach, Spenser Estates, Throggs Neck, Van Nest, Waterbury LaSalle, Westchester Square, and Zerega neighborhoods. Born and raised in the Bronx, Councilman Gjonaj is the son of hard-working, Albanian immigrant, union member parents, and is also a graduate of St. John’s University. His motivation comes from the hardships that his family has overcome and the opportunities that this great country has given him and his family. Gjonaj was the first Albanian-American elected in New York City and State. Elected to the New York City Council in 2017, he previously served as New York State Assembly Member for the 80th District from 2012 to 2017. Prior to that, Gjonaj was the Bronx Commissioner of the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. Recognizing that civic and philanthropic services are the cornerstones of a strong community, Gjonaj has devoted significant time and energy to a number of community organizations and activities. He is inspired by the love, generosity, and support of his family, friends, and community. Believing that “you can only get out of a community that which you put into it,” he started the “Gjonaj C.A.R.E.S” (Community, Accountability, Responsibility, Encouragement, Service) initiative, which promotes community participation to improve neighborhoods, quality of life, and a brighter future. Gjonaj proudly lives in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx with his wife, Roberta, a public school nurse, and their two sons, Nicholas and Joseph.
