| B | Brad S. Lander | | Amended and Coupled on GO | Protecting the right to truthful information under the city human rights law and expressly providing a cause of action for employers and principals whose rights are violated by conduct to which their employees or agents are subjected. | Introduction | The New York City Human Rights Law (“HRL”) bars real estate brokers and salespeople from lying about the availability of housing, land, or commercial space for a discriminatory reason, a protection sometimes called a “right to truthful information.” This bill would broaden or incorporate a right to truthful information for a variety of activity covered by the HRL, including: the availability and terms and conditions of sale or lease for housing, land, or commercial space; admission to or membership in a Multiple Listing Service or similar organizations; lending; employment; and access to public accommodations, which include many providers of goods and services, including restaurants, stores, and even some government entities.
This bill would also give principals and employers a cause of action when their rights are violated by discrimination against their agents or employees, as long as the discrimination happened while the agent or employee was working for the principal or employer. | Approved by Council | Pass |

The Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of Homeless Services, and Human Resources Administration/Department of Social Services also regularly come into contact with sexually exploited children through their programming.
This bill would require the establishment of a training coordinator, in an agency chosen by the Mayor, to teach certain agency staff how to identify runaway, homeless or sexually exploited youth and how connect them with appropriate services. The coordinator will conduct the training with the agency employees of the ACS, the Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of Homeless Services, and Human Resources Administration/Department of Social Services who are regularly in contact with youth. Currently the report is due annually on January 1st. The bill would extend the deadline to March 1st annually in order to provide an adequate amount of time for DYCD and ACS to prepare the report. | * | The Public Advocate (Ms. James) | ~SPONSOR | Land Use | Establishing a public list of commitments made by the city in connection with city planning commission decisions subject to council review. (20165637 LLY) | Introduction | This bill would require the Administration to establish and maintain a publicly accessible, searchable online list of written commitments made by the Mayor to the Council or a Council member in connection with most ULURP applications, including applications for neighborhood rezonings, amendments to the zoning resolution, dispositions of real property, and special permits that involve at least four adjacent blocks of real property. For applications filed by the City or a non-profit controlled by the Mayor, such list shall include all commitments made by letter by the Mayor or a representative designated by the Mayor. For private applications, such list shall include only those commitments for which a funding amount of $1 million or more is specified in the letter establishing the commitment. Commitments shall be logged in the list within 30 days of final approval of the application. Beginning on June 30, 2017 and annually thereafter, the responsible agency shall report to the Mayor and the Speaker of the Council on the progress of all commitments in the list. | Referred to Comm by Council | |
