A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to requiring certain food service establishments to have at least one member on staff who is trained in the Heimlich Maneuver or a comparable technique. 

 

Be it enacted by the Council as follows:

Section 1.  Section 17-172 of chapter 1 of title 17 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new subdivision d to read as follows:

d.  Every establishment where food is sold and space has been designated to accommodate at least forty people to sit and consume such food shall have at least one person employed by such establishment who is trained in the Heimlich Maneuver or a comparable technique that is used for the dislodging of food from a person who is choking.  The department shall provide a list of training resources to any such establishment where food is sold upon request. 

                     §2. This local law shall take effect ninety days after its enactment into law.
