Res No. 1635 Title Resolution calling upon the U.S. State Department to lift its warning on travel to Israel. Body By Council Members Dear, Moskowitz, Nelson and Stabile; also Council Members Koslowitz, O'Donovan and Rodriguez Whereas, On October 24, 2000, the State Department of the United States issued a travel advisory strongly encouraging all U.S. citizens to indefinitely defer travel to Israel, due to the violence currently ongoing in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza; and Whereas, American tourism and business travel is a leading sector of the Israeli economy; and Whereas, The loss of American tourism, presumably caused by the deterrent effect of the State Department travel advisory, has negatively impacted the Israeli economy, leading airports, airlines, taxis, hotels and other travel-dependent sectors of the economy to experience heavy losses in traffic and business; and Whereas, Israel has taken careful precautions to ensure the safety of both its citizens and visitors; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York calls upon the U.S. State Department to lift its warning on travel to Israel.
